How I review tools

Compare AI Tools helps you choose between AI and marketing software. Here is how the reviews on this site are made, including what I do and what I don’t.

Hands-on tests

For many tools I create an account, run a handful of small tests on the core features (the things most people buy the tool for) and take screenshots. Where a page includes my own screenshots and describes what I did, it is based on that. These are short practical tests, not lab benchmarks or long-term studies.

Research-based pages

Some pages, mostly comparisons, are compiled from the vendors’ own pricing pages and documentation plus public user reviews (such as G2, Capterra and Trustpilot). If a page has no screenshots or test notes from me, treat it as research-based.

Prices and facts

Prices come from the vendor’s own pricing page at the time of writing. Plans change, so check the vendor’s site before you buy. The date at the top of a page shows when it was last updated.

Ratings

Ratings are my own judgment, based on features, price, ease of use and what I found in testing or research. When I quote a score from G2, Capterra or Trustpilot, I say so.

How this site earns money

Some links are affiliate links: if you buy through them I may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. I also write about tools I earn nothing from.
